Here's what some of our customers have to say about Carolina Mountain Instruments.
If you own a Carolina Mountain instrument, email us your testimonial and we'll include it on this page!

"In 1974 I purchased a Gibson J45 and loved it.  In fact I still have the old Sunburst but since I got my 41002, the Gibson has become the "guest guitar".  The fret action is unbelievable,  The tone quality clear and crisp.  It holds tuning regardless of how hard I play.  And every time I pull it out of its case folks immediately began to praise it's workmanship and beauty.  It is the last guitar I will ever buy.  I am a Carolina Mountain convert.  Keep up the good work."

"I recently took off for a remote island from my home in western Carolina. The sea salt and travel made me apprehensive about taking my Collins mandolin. I bought the A mando from Ruth at her shop outside Murphy, N.C. and couldn't be more delighted with an inexpensive (let's face it, CHEAP) mandolin.  I played most every night at Max's Conch Bar on Long Island, Bahamas, and loved playing my Carolina Mt. mandolin. I had my buddy Rodney Hodge set it up a little better than shelf for $20. It didn't need much tweaking. My band members like the sound more than my Collins on certain songs. It's not as ballsy as the Collins but has a great bright sound and the neck is very playable. I think the round sound hole (dare I call it the A hole as opposed to an F hole) really gives it a loud, bright sound. So count me as one who totally agrees with your description on the web site."

I stopped at a flea market while I was traveling from Robbinsville, NC to Morgantown, WV.  I met Tom Wilkes at the flea market where he had his hand made guitars on display. I picked up the red hollow body bass and picked on it for about two minutes, and I told Tom that I was more comfortable playing a six string guitar.  He handed me the Herringbone, and I immediately fell in love with the great sound coming out of that guitar.  He had me sit and play a tune while he recorded it, and I just knew that eventually I would get one of those guitars.  I came home to Morgantown,WV, and after talking it over with my wife, I ordered the Herringbone.  I asked Tom to sell me a hard case, and ship it to me.  I received the guitar the day after he shipped it, and I am so pleased with this guitar.  I would highly recommend this to anyone that loves to play.  Tom is really great to deal with, and his guitars are second to none.  If you are in the market for a great guitar, you can't go wrong buying the Carolina Mountain Herringbone, model EFG-41001.

"I have been playing bass for over 50 years and seen lots of instruments. At first, I was taken by the beauty of your guitars. They are works of art. The workmanship is equally excellent and the inlay work is tremendous. When I played your bass I realized that this wasn't just a showboat but a pro level instrument that played easily and sounds great! The final straw was how amazingly inexpensive your instruments are priced. I expected they would be 3 or 4 times more. Keep up the good work Tom. I look forward to visiting your showroom again soon."
