We sit up here in the hills of the southern Appalachians, bordered by the Great Smoky Mountains and the Balsam Mountains, in a land steeped in traditions, culture, music, and pride in a job well done. Our roots go back over 200 years in these hills and hollows that we call home.  In our great grandfathers?   It was common practice for a spry young fellow to walk 10 or 15 miles carrying his instrument of choice, usually handmade and passed down through the generations, to woo the maiden who had caught his eye
